History of the Gare de Lyon
Built in 1855, the Gare de Lyon (Lyon Station) was almost completely burned down in a fire during the Paris Commune in 1871 before it was rebuilt exactly as it was. For the 1900 Exposition Universelle, also known as the 1900 Paris Exposition, the station was completely replanned by an architect from Toulon, Marius Toudoire. The new building, along with its super facade, was inaugurated in 1901.
The famous restaurant « Le Train Bleu »
Le Train Bleu, a historical place, was inaugurated in 1901. It was ranked as a historic monument in 1972 by André Malraux. It was renovated in 2014 with new decor that mixes the Belle Epoque style with more contemporary furnishings.
The restaurant, with it’s show of a kitchen, offers a pleasant and sumptuous selection of food, with a spectacular view of the trains, an unforgettable culinary experience, and delicious and appetizing delicacies: a selection of tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, with crispy Serrano ham… roasted supreme farm fowl with juices from the bird, lemon, and coriander and a variety of multicolored carrots… Rum baba, with citrus punch, vanilla whipped cream from Madagascar… a real treat. The dishes and the service correspond to the establishment’s reputation. The service is quick and courteous.
